Planning a short escape to the Balearics? This weekend in Mallorca itinerary combines the best of Palma with one classic day trip. It’s perfect for travellers who want a mix of culture, seaside relaxation, and a taste of the island’s famous landscapes.

A narrow cobblestone street lined with stone buildings, green shutters, potted plants, and overhead string lights on a sunny day.

I’m Hazel, a travel blogger and solo traveller who has explored Mallorca extensively, and this itinerary is based on my favourite way to spend 2-3 days here.

The itinerary bases you in the capital, Palma de Mallorca (which just happens to be where the airport is located too) with day trips which can be taken by car or public transport. I’ve pinned all your stops on the map at the bottom of the post.

Day 1 – Palma’s Historic Old Town 🏛️

🌅 Morning – Cathedral & Old Town

Begin at Palma’s landmark La Seu Cathedral, then explore the Royal Palace of La Almudaina.

Wander the narrow streets of the Old Town, full of boutiques and shady courtyards.

🍴 Lunch in the Old Town

Head to Mercat de l’Olivar for tapas and seafood in a bustling market setting.

🎨 Afternoon – Art & Coffee

Visit the Es Baluard Museum of Modern Art or smaller galleries in Santa Catalina.

Take a break at La Molienda, one of Palma’s best coffee shops (try an iconic ensaimada pastry with your brew).

🌙 Evening – Seafront Walk & Tapas

Stroll along the Passeig Marítim for marina views before sampling Mallorcan cuisine at the many tapas bars on offer.

🏨 Overnight in Palma

Stay in Palma Old Town – Hotel Cappuccino (boutique) or HM Jaime III (one of my favourite art hotels in Palma).

Day 2 – Choose Your Day Trip 🚗

With a full day to spare, head out of Palma to experience another side of Mallorca. You have two great options below.

Both of these options can be reached by public transport, but you may prefer to rent a car from Discover Cars and drive.

Option 1 – Sóller & Port de Sóller ⛰️ 🏝️

  • Take the vintage wooden train from Palma through the Tramuntana mountains.
  • Explore Sóller town, then hop on the tram to Port de Sóller for seaside lunch and a swim.
  • Don’t miss fresh orange juice from Sóller’s famous groves. 🍊

Option 2 – Valldemossa & Deià 🏡 🌊

  • Visit Valldemossa, a stone-built village in the mountains with a historic monastery.
  • Continue to Deià, an artists’ haven with stunning sea views. 🎨
  • Have lunch at Ca’s Patro March, perched above the water.

🌙 Evening in Palma

Return to Palma for a relaxed final evening of tapas and drinks.

Delectable tapas at Bar España followed by and rooftop drinks at the Sky Bar, Hotel Almudaina are a perfect finale (all pinned on the map below).

🏨 Overnight in Palma

Stay in Palma Old Town again for convenience.

Optional Day 3 – Beach Time 🏖️

If you have an extra day, you could choose to spend it at the beach before heading home.

🌊 Visit Playa de Can Pere Antoni (walkable from the Old Town) for a city beach vibe.

🚌 Or take a short bus to Cala Major, a sandy cove with clear water.

🚘 If you rented a car, venture to Cala Pi, a fjord-like turquoise cove about an hour away.

A small sandy beach with clear turquoise water, surrounded by rocky cliffs and trees, with sun loungers and umbrellas scattered along the shore.
Cala Pi – well worth the drive.

🍤 Lunch

Finally, round off your trip with a final seafood lunch by the water before heading to the airport back at Palma.
