My visit to the Savoy Saccharum Resort & Spa Madeira.
Rating: ★★★★★
I visited the Savoy Saccharum Resort & Spa Madeira in July 2023. Please note this post is not sponsored, and I am not being paid to write it (the resort literally has no idea I exist!)
I have split my review into four sections: hotel design, Dining options, Spa and facilities, and General service. At the bottom of the post, you will also find FAQs, recommended tours, booking links, and a map.
Design & Architecture at Savoy Saccharum Resort & Spa Madeira.
The Saccharum Resort & Spa is a Savoy Signature hotel. Created by the RH+ Arquitectos team, this Design Hotel beautifully combines the natural surroundings and the local landscape. The hotel calls itself a Hedonist Design Resort.
As soon as I arrived, the resort’s modern and stylish design caught my eye.
The reception area radiates sophistication, and the warm, friendly staff made me feel welcome right from the start. The check-in process was quick and efficient, ensuring a smooth start to my stay.
My room was spacious and well-appointed, featuring a private balcony with a garden view. Many of the rooms also have stunning ocean views, because the hotel is carved right into the cliffside.

The architecture harmonises with the natural rock formations, almost becoming a part of the mountain itself. It adapts to the land’s shape, and they’ve even added plants on the roof and in the flowerbeds to better blend in with the landscape.
The rugs resemble industrial factory floors, the copper pool at the Saccharum Spa resembles a honey vat, and the prominent green shades are inspired by sugar cane. Each room features distinct photographs on the headboards of the beds.

Dining Options at Savoy Saccharum Resort & Spa Madeira.
No review of mine would be complete without an in-depth look at the dining options.
The resort offers 6 restaurants that cater to diverse palates and preferences, each one offering a very high standard of cuisine and service. Most of the dishes are also available as room service too.
1. Alambique Restaurant
When it comes to a refined dining experience, Alambique is the go-to spot.
This restaurant offers a menu filled with delightful international and Madeiran dishes. The atmosphere is elegant, and the service is impeccable. I made it my mission to try as many dishes as possible from the menu – 3 items below!

2. Engenho Restaurant
Here, you’ll find the essence of traditional Madeiran cuisine. Engenho whisks you away on a culinary journey, presenting dishes made from locally sourced ingredients and authentic recipes.
The ambience is cosy, and the décor adds a touch of rustic charm.
3. Trapiche Restaurant
This is the place for poolside dining. There is an infinity pool on the 8th floor, and Trapiche restaurant is just next to it. The restaurant offers an exciting array of dishes blending local and international flavours. The dishes are really appealing, and you might find you just want everything on the menu (I did).

4. Rhum Bar
At the Savoy Saccharum Resort & Spa Madeira, the Rhum Bar is renowned for its unique cocktails and a vast collection of fine rums. It’s modelled on the Madeira sugar cane distillery and is the perfect spot for a pre-dinner drink or a leisurely evening.
5. Fly Lounge Bar
Fly Lounge Bar is the place for incredible sunsets.
Sip on carefully crafted cocktails and a variety of drinks whilst watching the sun dip below the horizon. There is a cocktail of the day, and I highly recommend each one!

6. Calhau Beach Bar
Positioned across the road, literally on the beach, the Calhau Beach Club offers a delightful sunbathing and dining experience.
You can relax, enjoy light bites, sip on refreshing drinks, and soak up the sun with a view of the beach. There are sunbeds, parasols and tables, along with cool tunes and a lovely atmosphere.

Spa & Facilities at Savoy Saccharum Resort & Spa Madeira.
The resort’s spa and wellness facilities were a haven of tranquillity. The spa offers a range of rejuvenating treatments, expertly delivered by skilled therapists.
You can treat yourself to a relaxing massage or beauty treatment – but make sure you book in advance, as they do get booked up. I tried to get my nails done, but sadly, there was no availability.
The spa area also features a sauna, steam room, and indoor pool, providing a serene retreat for those seeking wellness and detox.
There is also a games room, squash court, tennis court, 4 swimming pools and a children’s playroom.
The infinity pool on the 8th floor is particularly dazzling although it isn’t actually the highest one – for those who like their pools with a view!
The Savoy Saccharum Resort & Spa also offers wellness programs and packages that allow guests to embark on a holistic journey to health and well-being.

Service at Savoy Saccharum Resort & Spa Madeira.
What truly sets Saccharum apart is the exceptional level of service.
The staff are attentive, professional, and consistently go the extra mile for guests. The reception staff helped me with local levada walks, booking local tours and also booking taxis too.
In terms of location, the Savoy Saccharum Resort & Spa Madeira is ideally situated to explore the wonders of Madeira. The nearby Calheta Marina offers opportunities for water sports and boat excursions, and the surrounding natural beauty provides ample opportunities for hiking and outdoor activities.

In conclusion, the Savoy Saccharum Resort & Spa Madeira exceeded my expectations in every way. From its beautiful location and luxurious amenities to its outstanding service and exceptional dining options, it’s perfect for a relaxing and indulgent escape.
